Our topic this half term is called ‘At the Doctors’ and we are very excited to be having topic
Fridays. During this topic we will be Scientists and are looking forward to learning about our
body parts, our 5 senses, how to look after our bodies and how we, as humans, are similar to
animals. We are also expecting a visit from a Doctor who will answer some of our questions and
tell us all about what goes on in a Doctor’s surgery.
Soon, we will be handing out our Home Learning Journals. In this, you will receive a weekly
Maths activity. You will also be given 5 weekly spellings to practise at home which will be
incorporated into your child’s learning that week.
Reading – It is so important that you hear your child read daily to support their fluency and
understanding. Please sign their 100 read challenge if they have read to you for a period of 10
#30things – We have exciting new experiences on our #30things for you and your
child to share! Awards are available for those who can complete all 30!
Home learning needs to be returned by Wednesday and new homework will be given out on a
Reading at home and home learning is vital to the progression of your child.

As part of their topic work, Year 1 visited York National Railway Museum where they had a workshop on George Stephensons Rocket.
Year 1 took a trip to Leeds City Museum as part of their Science Topic work on animals.
Class of 2016/17
Year 1 have been on their end of the year trip to Filey and although the sun did not shine the children had a fab time as you can see by the smiles on the childrens faces.
As part of our Topic on plants in Summer Term 1, we visited Skelton Grange where we investigated plant life in the pond. We learnt all about germination and we saw Howard the 100 year old tree.
As part of our Topic we visited Newmillerdam where we searched for the characters' homes, built a den for a character and went on a scavenger hunt.
