Our first main topic this half term will be ‘In the Capital’. Firstly children will learn about London and
what a capital city is. We will then go back in time and learn about the events of the great fire and how
things changed as a result. Every Friday will be topic day so that the children have the full day to
immerse themselves into the topic.
What do they get, when do they get it and when does it need to be handed in?
Your child will be given:
- a reading record
- a reading book
- a homework journal
The reading record shows how much reading your child is doing at home.
To help make a difference in your child’s learning, you should listen to them read for 10-15
minutes a night. Please record when you have listened to your child read so that their book can be
changed. Books will be changed regularly throughout the week if your child has finished.
Children who do not read regularly at home struggle to make sufficient progress in school.

Yr2 trip to York.
As part of their Topic Year 2 have been learning all about the Great Fire of London.
A themed day was held, where the children got to dress-up, bake bread and rebuild London from recycled material.
Class of 2016/17
Year 2 had a fantastic end of year trip to Sundown. The sun shone and the children had a brilliant time and were a credit to the school.
Year 2 visited Yorkshire Air museum as part of their Topic.

The children in year 2 took a trip to the Yorkshire Air Museum and saw the plane the Wright Brothers used for their first flight.
