This half term our topic is 'In the Dragon's Den' and we will be devoting every Friday to a full day
of topic work. The Year 6 children are currently working extremely hard preparing for their SATS
tests, therefore on a Friday we will try as much as possible to link our Maths and English to the
topic day in a fun and engaging manner. The children look forward to their topic days as they
provide an opportunity to dig a little deeper into something they are really interested in. Last-
term's work, regarding the French painter Claude Monet, was exceptionally good and we expect
this term to be the same as the chidren endeavour to produce high quality writing, and the term
design and technology will be the focus. The topic will launch with a Dragon's Den Pitch; fully
inspired, the children will then be given a brief to begin to plan and design their product. Through
research and development their ideas will change and adapt until they re-enter the Drangon's
Den to pitch their idea to the Dragons.
To link in with the topic we will look at successful entrepeneur and read passages from their
autobiographies; this will start with Duncan Bannatyne.
Just a reminder. We expect all children to read for 10 minutes - 5 times a week.
Each Friday your child will be given SATs Revision Guides, it is extremely important that you
child completes this work to help them achieve their potential.
We expect all revision guides to be returned to school by Thursday at the latest.
