Supporting SEND children at

            Hunslet Carr Primary School

children with disabilities

Welcome to our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities page! Or as we like to call it, our

SEND page.

This page is to help you to find all the information you will need to understand the way in

which Hunslet Carr aims to support and include children with Special Educational Needs and

those with a Disability.

At Hunslet Carr Primary School, we pride ourselves on the fantastic provision we offer our

pupils. Mrs Wilson is our qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and leads

the inclusion team with support from The Senior Leadership Team including Mr Lumb, our Head

Teacher, and Mrs Bedlow who is training to be our new SENCo.

Our inclusion team is dedicated to supporting children and families with their learning and

pastoral needs.  We run nurture groups throughout the day led by Mrs McGreavy and have a

dedicated parent support worker, Miss Brain who can help families to support their child in

school and at home.

Hunslet Carr buys in additional time with both a Speech and Language Therapist and an

Educational Psychologist. We run extensive language groups to develop vocabulary, writing

skills, social skills and communication. We also have many staff trained in the delivery of

individual speech and language programmes and these are provided 1/1 throughout the

week.

The SENCo along with Mrs McGreavy and Miss Passey are trained to Level 3 in Autism

awareness. Mrs McGreavy and Miss Passy are our Lead professionals for Autism and support

children, parents and staff with training and resources.

We have an amazing team of trained support staff who deliver an array of targeted

interventions that are designed to close any gaps in learning that the children may have.

Outside agencies praise us constantly for the provision we provide and strive to develop staff

and provision to meet the individual needs of our children. We recognise that it is parents who

know their children best and your views are always of great value to us.

Should you have any questions regarding your child, please do not hesitate to make an

appointment with Mrs Wilson who is always happy to listen to your concerns.
